Dublin Wager

It is a known fact that humans like to be tested and to compete against each other to assert dominance over the opposition. It has historically been proven that it is the Brain and Brawn who comes out on top. Quizzing provides a brilliant activity to keep the same spirit of competition with your opponents using your brainpower by forcing one to think outside the box to work on trivia-based questions, with the hints or relations that are to be searched for in the questions. With this same objective in mind, we bring you Dublin Wager, The Quizzing event of Lexis!
The Quizmaster for this edition of Dublin Wager is Mr. Piyush Kedia!
P.S: Did you know that peanut oil is used as an ingredient in dynamite?

Impromptu
11:00 AM, Oct 26 @ LHC G06
This LEXIS staple is designed to show us your quick-wittedness. In the preliminary round, a picture will be shown to the participant. They start off giving a positive/negative interpreta tion of the picture, and each time the moderator says switch, you change to negative/positive. Total time to speak per person will be 30 seconds. Max. 2 switches. A demo will be given for this.
Finals:
The finalists will be playing a game of PowerPoint karaoke: They must deliver a pre sentation based on a set of slides they have never seen before. Judges will choose winners based on relevant criteria (creativity, clarity, appropriateness, and persuasiveness, among other things.)
Just A Minute
1:00 PM, Oct 26 @ LHC G02
Welcome to Just a Minute! A game that’s all about quick thinking and smooth talking, where all you have to do is speak non-stop for 60 seconds on a given topic without hesitation, repetition, or deviation. It’s as fun as it sounds, and a great way to test your wits!
Prelims:
In case there are more than 16 willing to play, we will have prelims. It will be a short written round.
Rules of the game (Finals):
- The host shall give the players a random topic. Immediately after the announcement, the 60 seconds timer is started.
- The player shall keep on speaking on the topic until one of his opponents raises a challenge (vide (10)) or the 60 seconds timer runs out, whichever comes first.
- The raised challenge must be an accurate one. Accusing Hesitation when in reality the speaker deviated from the topic will not be counted as a successful challenge.
- If the challenge is granted (denied), then the challenger gains 5 points (loses 5 points) and the challenger now continues as the speaker (original speaker continues speaking).
- The rest of the players must now again be on the lookout for challenging the current speaker.
- Each speaker scores points corresponding to the time (in seconds.milliseconds) that they speak.
- Repeat (2)-(6)
- At the end of 60 seconds of game-time, total scores (from challenges and the speaking time) shall be added.
- After four (or three, depending on the number of players) rounds, the winner of the game is the player who scores the most points over all rounds in a game.
- A challenge could include any of the following
- Hesitation: Any sort of obvious hesitation from the speaker’s end. No “umm”, “uhh” or long pauses.
- Repetition: Repetition could include repetition of words, repetition of ideas, or repetition of phrases. Common words like pronouns, conjunctions and articles are allowed, and do not count as repetition. However, overly obvious abuse of this freedom can be challenged, and may be ruled against the speaker. However, anything on the topic card can be repeated.
- Deviation: Deviation could include any of the following:
- Grammatical Deviation: Any grammatical error.
- Factual Deviation: Any idea presented that is factually incorrect.
- Deviation from topic: Yapping about something not in the topic.
Format
(assuming 16 participants, so tentative and may be slightlychanged):
- Games will be played in groups of four at a time.
- In Round 1 four games of four players each will play. This is the seeding round. The players’ standings in their respective games in this round will be their seed numbers for the next round. Fourth seed (last place finishers) is eliminated here.

War of Words
3:00 PM, Oct 26 @ LHC G06
As an institute committed to the pursuit of truth, War of Words, Lexis’ famed debate event, tests the mettle of ideas and the debaters defending them. With a plethora of spicy topics to choose from, this event will surely have you on the edge of your seats.
Event Outline:
- The debate will take place in either a Lincoln-Douglas or a Cross-Examination format (depending on participant turnout).
- For the topics, we plan to send a mail to all members of the IISER-K community, seeking to find the topics they wish to see debated. To this list, several topics will be appended by the EO. The final list will then be decided by either public vote or by Lexis Organizers. The final list of topics will then be sent to all and participants will be able to choose which topics they want to debate over.
- The event will be judged both by selected judges (IISER-K profs) and the audience (finer details on this will be provided later).
